The Google logo was transformed on Saturday 24 July 2010 to celebrate the work of Arthur Boyd, one of Australia’s most famous and beloved artists, on what would have been his 90th birthday.
Arthur Boyd is the first Australian artist to be honoured with a Google ‘doodle’, joining the likes of Van Gogh, Warhol and Da Vinci. Google Doodles are special version of the Google logo that celebrate significant events, anniversaries and individuals who share Google’s values of invention and innovation.
Google worked closely with the Bundanon Trust to ensure that the design, based on Boyd’s Shoalhaven series, reflected the artist’s style and approach. The Bundanon Trust manages Bundanon, an 1100 hectare property overlooking the Shoalhaven River in NSW, which was gifted by Arthur Boyd to the nation to encourage an appreciation and understanding of the importance of the landscape in the lives of Australians.
The Boyd-inspired Doodle was live for 24 hours. You can see more Google Doodles here.
