Bundanon Trust will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a Festival Day on November 9, 2003 that has something on offer for the whole family.
Take a tour of the Bundanon Homestead and view four generations of Boyd Family artworks, wander the garden and enjoy the sculptures on display from both the Bundanon Collection and also those provided by the talented artisans of the Bundanon Education staff, stroll up to the Amphitheatre for performances by the Berry Drama Group, taste a selection of local wines and produce or sit on the lawn and soak up the ambience of music, art and the beautiful surroundings.
At midday, CEO, Rene Sutherland will officially open the day in the presence of special guests, Mrs Yvonne Boyd and Ms Polly Boyd. The Shoalhaven High School Koori Dancers, with Sonny Simms, will give a “Welcome to Country” and Mrs Boyd will be called upon to launch “The Bundanon Cantos”, by Anna Kerdijk Nicholson, a collection of poetry written by the former Bundanon Writer in Residence.
Due to popular demand, an exhibition of Artist in Residence work will be mounted especially for the day. The exhibition will include works from acclaimed Australian artists including Wendy Stavrianos, J.R. Walker, G.W. Bot, Jo Bertini, Anne Ferguson and Peter Pinson. Also on display will be works from local school students contesting for the very valuable prize of a class excursion to Bundanon of tours and workshops. The winner will be announced on the day during the official opening.
A full program of entertainment has been arranged to cater for an array of tastes. Bring a picnic blanket and spend the day soaking up the strains of the Nowra Town Band, the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra, Raised Voices, Trilogy, Kiama High School Vocal Ensemble, members of the Lydian Singers and the odd wandering minstrel. Trombonist, Simone de Haan, a past Musician in Residence will be a special feature.
Get a birds’ eye view of the day with a helicopter joyflight over the Bundanon properties and along the Shoalhaven River towards Nowra or take a walk to the riverbank to see Arthur’s inspirational Pulpit Rock up close. Admire the talents of locals artists as they work on easels around the property and take some time to visit the Artist in Residence complex for an open studio visit with Patrick Shirvington.
Keeping the children entertained won’t be difficult with a number of art workshops, face painting and a jumping castle on offer.
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic but a range of delicious food will also be available for purchase, as will be a selection of local wines. The Great Southern Hotel, Berry will host a beer and champagne stall.
Come enjoy the gift so generously given to the Australian people by Arthur and Yvonne Boyd.
