Cat Jones will produce a new series of animated dance solo’s with an obitsu figure (Obitsu Solo Series).
An obitsu doll is a featureless but jointed doll that is then custmoised by a keeper. It comes with no hair, eyes, mouth, skin colouration. Until a few years ago obitsu doll’s only came in female form. The customisation of these dolls is a subcultural practice originating in Japan.
This project takes a nude female object and animates it into expressive movement in an unexpected form.
During the residency Cat will create a series of interlinked animated solo’s. After the residency she will collaborate with a sound artist to record and compose to the edited visual material. She will be researching the juxtaposition of real life documentary style sound bed (interviews and foley sound of recorded movement) as part of this process.
