Compelled to Draw

Ceramicist Merric Boyd sketched continuously throughout his life. In the last ten to fifteen years, when the strain of modelling in clay became too great, he gave himself up entirely to drawing, producing thousands of works on paper. On show for the first time this exhibition includes a 5.8m long frieze titled Rural life (pictured), which demonstrates his obsessive approach to drawing and tendency to combine text with image.
