Dorothy Porter Studio

Bundanon Trust officially launched the opening of the Dorothy Porter Studio in September 2009. The studio, designed by leading architects Tonkin, Zulaikha, Greer is used by leading Australian and international dancers and artists working collaboratively. The much awaited studio is an invaluable addition to the Trust’s artist-in-residence facilities. Measuring 6.31m x 11.570m the studio has a sports rated sprung floor, 8m high ceilings and bi-folding glass doors stretching across the front, and will complement existing working spaces on site and will enable artists who work with their bodies and/ or in groups to have an appropriate working environment. Bundanon Trust acknowledges the generosity of the estate of the late Dorothy Porter for their support for our artist in residence program. The poet Dorothy Porter (1954-2008), author of the Australian Classic, The Monkey’s Mask, plus several other verse novels and collections of poetry was also a song-writer and librettist. It was through her collaborative work with the composer Jonathan Mills that she first came to Bundanon, to work on their opera The Eternity Man. Here she found so much that she valued in life and art: a community of artists working in the bush, surrounded by animals, birds and the gentle, vigorous presence of Arthur Boyd.
