F.A.Q.'s - residencies

When can I arrive at Bundanon for my residency? Artists are to arrive between 1-4pm Monday to Friday. If you are in a collaborative group we ask that you try and arrive at the same time as all artists need to be inducted to the site- including returning artists. Please contact the Program Officer to discuss your arrival details- (02) 4422 2108.

I will be travelling to Bundanon by public transport. What are my options? You can either catch the South Coast train from Sydney to Bomaderry (Nowra) Train station or the Premier Bus Service. A Program staff member will be able to meet your bus/train and take you to pick up any supplies you may need before heading to Bundanon. This service is only available Monday to Friday between 12- 2.30pm. Transportation on your departure is only available Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.Please contact the Program Officer for more information tracie@bundanon.com.au

What are the kitchen facilities at Bundanon? All accommodation has full kitchen facilities. Fern and Freedman apartments share a kitchen, as do Sherman and Gonski. If you require specialized equipment such as blenders, juices, rice makers and pasta makers, you should bring it with you.

Do I need to bring linen with me? No need, we supply all your sheets, blankets and a towel. All rooms also have a heater and fan.

What equipment is available to use at Bundanon? Each visual arts studio has an easel, as well as sinks and large tables. We do have a basic toolbox that is shared by the studios. You will need to bring everything else.

Who will be in residence with me? Check out our current residencies section for artists in residence over a 4 month period. You can also ask the Program Officer when you call to discuss your arrival.

The contract mentions interaction with visiting schools- what does this involve? The Education Manager may ask you to assist their program with a short “show and tell” style visit with a school. The group will visit your studio, sometimes in two groups if the group is large. You can show your work, your methods, talk about your career, get the students to assist in your work- it’s quite informal and the students get a lot out of it. It usually lasts for no more than 20mins. There will be a letter in your welcome pack on your arrival detailing this visit.

What is the internet access like out there? The visual arts spaces as well as the Writers Cottage have wireless access. The Musicians Cottage does pick up this signal intermittently but is not reliable. There is an Ethernet cable in the Musicans Cottage to service this space. Most of the grounds surrounding the homestead and the AIR studios also picks up the wireless signal so you can sit in the sun and check your email while having your lunch. Please note that we do not have a limited plan- we ask that you DO NOT download movies and television shows and software etc- make sure your organize someone at home to record your favourite shows before you leave!

How about telephone? There is no mobile phone signal at Bundanon. There is a landline in each kitchen. Please refer to your handbook you received with your agreement for these numbers. You can call local numbers for free- however you will need a pre-paid calling card (the North Nowra Post Office is an excellent source for these) to call STD (which includes Sydney) and mobile phone numbers. If you have Skype on your computer, you can also Skype.

Do you have a computer or printer at the AIR Complex? No we don’t, you’ll need to bring your own.

Can my partner stay with me? Visitors, including children of resident artists, are not permitted to stay on the Trust properties due to limited resources (such as water) and the need to respect the solitude of fellow artists. Artists with exceptional circumstances can apply to the CEO for special consideration. Please note that this clause is in your Artist in Residence Agreement which you have signed.

That sounds very reasonable. How about a day visit? We recommend that you ask your family and friends to visit on a Sunday, therefore allowing your visitors to make the most of the trip and visit the Homestead and Arthur’s Studio. You will need to check in with Program staff if they would like to visit on any other day.
