GEEBUNG

Persoonia spp.

The egg shaped fruit of the Geebung is succulent but can have a dry taste. Aboriginal people ate them raw by nibbling off the fibrous sweet pulp from the hard stone. The most edible fruit is found lying on the ground and is almost always eaten by birds. The bark of the Geebung was soaked in water to make a tanning solution to make fishing lines stronger. It was a popular bush fruit for white children.
