Award winning Australian Architect and designer of Riversdale's Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre has recently been awarded the 2009 Amercian Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal.
Murcutt, who works exclusively in Australia, was recognised by the AIA Board of Directors as continuing to have a profound impact on architecture around the world.
Soon to have his name chiseled into the granite Wall of Honours in the lobby of the AIA Headquarters in Washington D.C., Murcutt becomes the 65th AIA Gold Medalist, joining previous winners Thomas Jefferson, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, LeCorbusier, Louis Kahn, I.M. Pei, Cesar Pelli, Edward Larrabee Barnes and 2008 winner Renzo Piano.
The Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre, Riversdale hosts the annual Glenn Murcutt Masterclass, now in its 9th year. Every year 32 architects from around the globe spend a week in residence at Riversdale, being mentored by Glenn Murcutt and Australia's finest architects, Richard Leplastrier, Peter Stutchbury, Brit Anderson and Lindsay Johnston.
Tours of the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre will run on Sunday 11 January at 1pm and 3pm. Click on the link in the sidebar for more details.
