Josie's work is informed by the built environment, technology and the social systems that manipulate human exchange. Speculative research based on direct observations of interactions between people, technology and environment underscore the commonplace references in her work. Her practice is predominately sculpture based, occasionally employing video, sound and social situations to realise the work.
Two projects that Josie aims to develop during this time are Awkward Silence and Belmore I.T.C.H. (Institute for Try-hard Ceramicists and Handicrafters).
Awkward Silence is an ongoing project that mediates between conversations and social rituals within the contemporary art setting.
Belmore I.T.C.H. aims to be a studio residency that creates possibilities for non-ceramic artists to explore ideas through a social, material or any other relationship to ceramics.
