Yonamine was born in Luanda, Angola. He has lived in Angola, Zaire (now DRC), Brazil and the United Kingdom. He comes to Bundanon through our international Artist in Residence partnership with the Africa Centre, South Africa.
He currently lives and works in Lisbon. He lives in a constant ambulation between Angola, Congo, Brazil, UK, Portugal. His artwork is undoubtedly the result of wandering. He has gone through the Slave Triangle (Africa/America/Europe) and his work is inside this triangulation. He catches these three winds. Being an artist is the best way he has found to live in this mixed identity.
