Mary Anne trained as an actor at the VCA, before focusing on writing for performance. She holds a Master of Philosophy [Creative Writing] and a Master of Arts Education [Theatre in Education]. She lectures in creative writing in Darwin, and is Chair of the Varuna Fellowship Selection Committee, Deputy Chair of the Arts NT Arts Grants Board and co-artistic director of Knock-em-Down Theatre. Mary Anne has had several plays and short films produced in Queensland and the Northern Territory, and her latest play Half Way There will tour to Cairns, Darwin, Alice Springs and Townsville in 2009.
While at Bundanon, Mary Anne will be working on `The Sound of Waiting'; a dual narrative stage play about Savannah - who drowns and turns into a fish - and Mot, who jumps off a cliff and ends up finding hope. The genre is magic realism.
