Bundanon

Since 2001, school children and teachers from local primary schools have been invited to a Book Week presentation by a writer and/or illustrator in residence. 

Book Week 2018

Bundanon welcomed Gunai poet Kirli Saunders as our 2018 Bundanon Book Week author. Whilst in residence, Kirli delivered workshops for her Poetry in First Languages (PIFL) project. 

Kirli Saunders is a proud Gunai woman with ties to the YuinGundungurraGadigal and Biripi people. Kirli is the Manager of Poetic Learning and Aboriginal Cultural Liaison at Red Room Poetry. She also acts as Cultural Consultant for NFP and Government organisations. Kirli was awarded ‘Worker of the Year 2017’ at the NAIDOC awards in the Illawarra/ Shoalhaven region. She founded Poetry in First Languages.  

Book Week 2017 

Award winning illustrator, artist and bookmaker Marc Martin was in residence as our 2017 Book Week Author. 

Martin is an author and illustrator working with watercolour, gouache, pencil, scanned textures and computers, Martin creates worlds of dense colour and rich textures to explore themes of connectedness, place, urbanism, environment and our relationship with the natural world. 

Book Week 2016  

Bundanon welcomed Trace Balla into residence in August as our 2016 Book Week Illustrator and Author. 

Balla’s books, Rivertime and Shine, were both highly acclaimed, and Rivertime won the Readings Children’s Book Prize and Wilderness Society’s Environment Award for Children’s Literature. 

Book Week 2015 

Artist Tania Mason and writer Natalie Walton presented Book Week 2015 talks to 326 students and staff from eight primary schools.

Bundanon acknowledges the Wodi Wodi and the Yuin, of the South Coast region, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.

In Dharawal the word Bundanon means deep valley.
