These learning experiences are informed by the Betty Kuntiwa Pumani: maḻatja-maḻatja (those who come after) and David Sequeira: The Shape of Music museum season and are connected to the ideas, themes and material practices of the artists and artworks in this exhibition.

Museum Season Learning Activities:

Spark Ideas (1 hour)

Learners explore and respond to artworks on display in the Art Museum. Consideration is given to the work of contemporary artists Betty Kunitwa Pumani and David Sequera as well as key works from Bundanon’s Collection.

Betty Kuntiwa Pumani’s paintings reveal a shimmering landscape of red earth, bright blue waterholes and stippled white tobacco flowers. They represent Antara, her mother’s Country in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in north-western South Australia, and Tjukurpa storylines centred on maku, the witchetty grub.

David Sequeira brings together four bodies of work in diverse media, including a major new commission for Bundanon. Sequeira’s creative practice reflects a longstanding interest in colour, geometry and sound.

Colour as a Story (2 hours)

Change the meaning and feeling of a drawing. Use transparent and coloured papers to change something about the drawing creating new interactions with colour.

Composing with Colour (3 hours)

Respond to interactions between music, colour, geometry, form and shape to create a dynamic 3D art composition. Record your personal responses to music with colourful inks, gouache, watercolour pencils and crayons. Transform these responses into a small scale sculpture.
