PLAN YOUR VISIT - See the return of Arthur Boyd's Shoalhaven landscape paintings with new exhibition Wilder Times (6 July - 13 October 2024)

Bundanon

6 July 2024 – 13 October 2024

These learning experiences are informed by the Wilder Times museum season and are connected to the ideas, themes and material practices of the artists and artworks in this exhibition.

In this program, learners will consider that there are many ways to understand landscape and consider diverse artists’ responses to landscape, especially in the mid-1980s, in Australia.

Museum Season Learning Activities:

Spark Ideas (1 hour)

Learners explore and respond to artworks on display in the Art Museum. Consideration is given to a variety of themes including exploration of different approaches to the landscape, land ownership and environmental protection. This exhibition will inform and inspire learners about their own art making in the connected suite of learning experiences.

Found in Sound – Lost in Music (2 hours)

Focus on elements and experiences of the landscape you might not normally notice. Pay particular attention to sound and other waveforms in the landscape such as light and temperature and the mark-making that this inspires. This painted work on recycled cardboard uses colour to communicate the intensity, texture, pattern and tone of the sounds and waveforms you experienced at Bundanon.

Unpredictable Earth Paintings (3 hours)

Consider earth as both inspiration and materials for experimental landscape painting.  This workshop begins with some experimental pen drawing activities that encourage innovative ‘looking’ at and ‘responding’ to placeBack in the studio, mix a variety of ground rocks and dirt from Bundanon with PVA glue and water to create a palette of pigments

These earthy pigments are then used to make prints that are inspired by your pen drawings, resolve these works by painting and drawing back into the prints with coloured graphite.

Wilder Wearables (3 hours)

Work to collectively understand how each person in your group notices and ‘sees’ the Bundanon landscape uniquelyUse these diverse understandings to inform the design and construction of some wearable art that communicates a particular notion of landscape.

Materials at hand will include cardboard and papers, wire, wood, tape, string, natural fibres, fabric offcuts and art materials galore. These fantastic works will be documented in a variety of ways and brought to life in a red carpet moment!
