Gallop House is a beautiful nineteenth century house near the banks of the Swan River in Perth - an inspiring setting for a composer.

Gallop House

The expansive views across the river from Gallop House are a reminder of the changing and vital role Derbarl Yerrigan (The Swan River) has played in the landscape known as Nanulgarup.

Gallop House is a Victorian-style homestead built in 1877. The fully furnished home features three bedrooms, separate living space, dining room, kitchen, two studio spaces and a recital room.

The ground floor studio contains a meeting desk with four chairs and whiteboard. In the second studio there is a small desk and chair.

The recital room features a Kawai GL10 grand piano and fits approximately ten people.

The master bedroom and second bedroom both contain king-size beds that can be divided into two single beds if required. The third bedroom features a king single bed.

There are two bathrooms and a laundry.

The house has a carport with space for two vehicles, with extra parking facilities available on the grounds.

Gallop House is located at 22 Birdwood Parade, Dalkeith, WA, near the Swan River, approximately eight kilometres from Perth's city centre.

Dalkeith shopping centre is a 15-minute walk (1.5 km) from Gallop House with an IGA and pharmacy. Larger supermarkets, butchers, fishmongers, grocers and department stores are located in Crawley, Claremont Quarter or the city centre.

There are bus stops on Birdwood Parade with buses to and from Dalkeith shops, Claremont, Crawley and the city running approximately every 30 minutes.

The closest train station is Claremont, on the Fremantle line, 5.5 km from Gallop House. This is a 10-minute car ride or 15 minutes on the number 24 bus which departs every 30 minutes.

Perth Airport is 21 km away (approximately 25 minutes by car).

What to bring

  • Food. All artists must self-cater while in residence.
  • Computers, printers and other digital equipment.

Heating and Cooling

Gallop House has ducted air-conditioning (heating and cooling) on the first floor. Electrical heaters are provided on the ground floor.

Gallop House has a landline as well as internet access via either WiFi or ethernet (cable not supplied). Note that the cost of utilities (internet, phone, power and water) will be the responsibility of the composer whilst in residence.

All linen and towels are supplied.

Cooking and eating
Gallop House has a fully equipped kitchen with cookware, crockery and cutlery. The kitchen includes a blender and dishwasher. If you require specialised equipment such as juicers, rice makers and pasta makers, you should bring them with you.

Gallop House has laundry facilities containing washing machine and sink. A clothes hanger is supplied for drying.

Visitors, family and children are welcome to stay.

With the exception of assistance dogs, pets are not permitted on site due to the heritage fabric of the building.
This can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in special circumstances.

Smoking is not permitted at Gallop House.
