Material Memory
With Hetty Gascoigne

Hetty Gascoigne, Exhibitions Curator at ANU Drill Hall Gallery, reflects on her grandmother Rosalie Gascoigne’s life and career.

For Rosalie Gascoigne the landscape of the Monaro was endlessly captivating. It fuelled her art and fed her mind. Her materials speak of this generative dynamic. Blunt and poetic like the woman who chose them, they evoke atmosphere rather than sentiment and hold within them a wealth of memories.
