Over the past decade, Claudia Nicholson has developed a significant interdisciplinary practice spanning photography, video, painting, installation, and performance.

Her work explores her relationship to Colombia, her country of birth, and the wider Latin American region through the lens of diaspora, adoption, memory, and the complex work of return. Claudia is currently an Artist in Residence at Parramatta Artists’ Studios. In 2024, Nicholson was the Artist in Residence at the University of Technology Sydney, undertaking a research and development program that culminated in the solo exhibition If The Mountain Is Burning, Let It Burn. She is a recipient of the NSW Emerging Visual Arts Fellowship (2017). Recent exhibitions and commissions include New to the Collection, Campbelltown Arts Centre (2025); Same Same But Different, Bankstown Biennale (2024); and Spot the Difference, Penrith Regional Gallery (2024).

In Residence at Bundanon

During my residency, I will begin research for my upcoming project Pido Tiempo (ask for time), a new video and performance commission. Pido Tiempo will unfold through three iterative presentation outcomes in Melbourne and Sydney across 2027 and 2028. At Bundanon, I will review for the first time a collection of found home VHS tapes I purchased in Colombia in 2010. This material will help shape the project’s conceptual framework and refine its inquiry into return as a recursive process shaped by movement, echo, and repetition. I will also work en plein air, producing new watercolour paintings in response to the landscape.
