Following their Bundanon Residency, community orchestra Killalea Strings presents Down by the River — an evocative afternoon of music inspired by the Shoalhaven landscape.
Featuring a newly commissioned work by acclaimed Australian composer Ann Carr-Boyd, alongside water-inspired works by Delius, Vivaldi, Rameau, Scriabin and more, the program flows between shimmering melodies and vivid musical portraits of native flora.
Killalea Strings is a vibrant community group for adult string players across the Illawarra, Southern Highlands, and Shoalhaven.
Open to amateur to semi-professional musicians, the group offers a supportive space to grow skills, make music together, and connect through shared artistry. Ensemble playing builds confidence, sharpens listening skills, and fosters a strong sense of musical community. Killalea Strings is open to participants aged 18 and over.
In Residence at Bundanon
Killalea String Orchestra was accepted for a 2026 Bundanon Residency, offering a unique opportunity for artistic development in one of Australia’s most inspiring cultural environments. As part of the residency, a new eight-minute work for string orchestra by Australian composer Ann Carr-Boyd was commissioned. These works are written specifically for the ensemble and developed collaboratively during their time at Bundanon, reflecting the orchestra’s distinctive sound and surrounding landscape. Both works will be professionally recorded and made publicly available.
