DiscoverMadison Baird is a painter based on Gadigal land, Sydney.
Working across bush landscapes, figurative works, and still life, Madison Baird observes how our environments shape us, and how our inner worlds, in turn, mirror and respond to these surroundings. Grounded in observation, Baird’s practice finds meaning in stillness and the quiet solitude of the landscape after dark. In their inky nighttime worlds, these paintings capture the calm of evening and the gentle company found in nature.
During her time at Bundanon, Madison will explore the Shoalhaven landscape through drawing and painting, informed by observation of its ecology, seasonal changes, and plant communities. She is particularly interested in learning about the endemic and introduced species that inhabit the landscape, and in understanding how their presence reveals the subtle ecological shifts occurring over time. She will develop works that respond to the landscape’s atmosphere, rhythms, and ecological complexity. Bundanon offers an opportunity to slow down, engage deeply with this environment, and explore how painting can foster a greater connection to and awareness of the natural world.
