Ashley Leung and Josh Chan

Art Forms: Music/Sound, Performance, Writing

Residency Year: 2026

Lives / Works: Hong Kong, 香港

Ashley Leung and Josh Chan are multidisciplinary artists based in Hong Kong, 香港

Ashley is known for her raw and durational performances that evoke loneliness in the world of technology, plus existential angst resulting from family trauma, relationships and political censorship. She is influenced by her personal experiences living in a society that does not support her values. Her goal is to find common ground with her audiences and inspire introspection, reflection and change through art. She also expresses herself through writing poetry and creating sounds.

Josh is an architect and a freelance hand poke tattoo artist, a traditional craft representing spirituality. He also writes about memory, identity, cultural heritage and religion in Cantonese. He aims to connect different people through exchange of cultural knowledge and art. He believes that through understanding of cultures, we can be one step closer to living as one.

In Residence at Bundanon

Following the heartbreaking deadly fire in Tai Po (Hong Kong) on 26 November 2025, where 7 residential buildings were burnt down to a crisp, Ashley and Josh will collaborate on a sound piece/ performance/ text relating to the corruptions of the Hong Kong government with the estate tycoons, and the desperate but censored cries for help from our fellow Tai Po residents and Hong Kong people. We will be bringing over sounds of prayers from our Buddhist temples, using our treasured language Cantonese and improvising instruments onsite in the Australian bushland to complete our work.
