At the memorial service for Sir Sidney Nolan on 28 January 1993, Prime Minister Paul Keating announced the Australian Government’s acceptance of Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s gift of Bundanon and the intention to establish the Bundanon Trust. Trustees were established by the Australian Government to oversee the operation of Bundanon. The Arthur Boyd Retrospective was held at  Art Gallery of New South Wales. 

In 1994, Bundanon’s Artist in Residence program was advertised nationally. Janet McKenzie’s Arthur Boyd at Bundanon published. Arthur Boyd Retrospective exhibition toured nationally. 

On 26 January 1995 Prime Minister Paul Keating announced Arthur Boyd as Australian of the Year for his contribution to Australian art and the generosity of his many gifts to the Australian people. Testament of a Painter was filmed. The Boyds returned to Australia by container ship in May and Arthur received his award in person from the Prime Minister at Bundanon in August. In late February 1996, Arthur returns to England; Arthur Boyd: Sixty years of sleepless nights toured. 

In late February 1997, Arthur arrived at Bundanon. Recent paintings, sculpture and etchings held at Australian Galleries, Sydney was shown during June and July. Arthur Boyd: Family and Friends, from the Bundanon Collection, toured nationally from October 1997 to October 1998. Construction of the Boyd Education Centre commenced at Riversdale. The building of the Artist in Residence complex at Bundanon commenced. 

In January 1998, Arthur was named Australia Post’s 1999 Australian Legend and was represented on a stamp set. In February 1998, the Artist in Residence Complex at Bundanon was opened by Arthur Boyd. The Boyds left Bundanon and returned to England- Arthur for the last time, 

Early in 1999, Arthur returned to Australia intending to attend the opening of the Boyd Education Centre. Upon arrival in Sydney, Arthur was admitted to hospital and suffered a cardiac arrest. Arthur partly recovered and the Boyds went on to Melbourne. Arthur suffered another heart attack and passed away on 24 April 1999, aged 78. A memorial service was held at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra on 27 May 1999.

In Dharawal the word Bundanon means deep valley.
