For thousands of years this river was utilised by Aboriginal people for camping, resource collecting, ceremony and is very much still a part of ongoing cultural connection.

Explore the Buddawang Track and connect with Bundanon’s rich cultural history through a self-guided bushwalk.
Bundanon’s purpose is to celebrate the importance of the arts and the Australian landscape. It is deeply committed to the stewardship of its unique natural environment. Walking on the properties encourages visitors to engage with multiple narratives, including Indigenous, colonial, artistic, architectural, environmental, and agricultural.
One of the aspects of Bundanon that fascinates me is the contrast between the human-dominated agricultural flats and the primordial or primeval backdrop of the bushy mountain and rock.
— Arthur Boyd
Bundanon manages 10 kilometres of Shoalhaven River frontage and over 200 hectares of coastal riverine floodplains.
Sixty hectares of this area has been revegetated with native trees to sequester carbon. Fourteen hectares are undergoing long-term native vegetation restoration. Riverbanks are stabilised through engineered works and riparian tree planting. Managed grasslands are maintained for recreational, visual and amenity purposes. Forty hectares are managed for grazing and cropping, however agricultural activities do not occur within 30 metres of the river.
