Bundanon

Arthur Boyd & Family

To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, Bundanon Trust launched an exhibition of key works from its collection at the Lady Denman Heritage Complex Huskisson.

Arthur Boyd & Family showcases artworks from four generations of this artistic dynasty with special emphasis on 60 years of work by Arthur Boyd, one of Australia’s greatest 20th century artists.

In Arthur Boyd & Family we view Arthur’s work in the context of his family, his principal early influence. Exquisite watercolours by his grandparents, Emma Minnie and Arthur Merric Boyd, drawings by his father Merric and paintings by his mother Doris hang along side Arthur’s idyllic landscapes of the 1930s, major works from the 1960s and Shoalhaven inspired works of the 1970s through to the 1990s.

“I believe that my whole drive to paint and to use ceramics and the other mediums I have used was due to the influences of my immediate family environment…..All the members of my family worked in the arts, actively encouraged me and simply watching them work was sufficient to make me want to work in their mediums and with their subject.’

Like Arthur, his siblings were nurtured by the creative environment of the Boyd family. Works by Arthur’s older sister, Lucy Beck, a ceramic artist, and his two younger brothers Guy, potter and sculptor, and David, potter and painter, are represented in this exhibition. Works by Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s three children Polly, Jamie and Lucy are seen in Arthur Boyd & Family – they and their children continue the Boyd family’s artistic tradition.
