Five young guardians of ancient Persian classical music present vocal radif that have been cultivated over centuries, remaking them in shimmering contemporary compositions.
Australia is fortunate to have a rich diaspora of remarkable musicians educated in the intricacies of Classical Persian music. For this performance, three in our midst — Vahideh Eisaie (qanan), Pegah Kheirdoush (kamancheh and ghaychak) and Sohrab Kolahdooz (percussion) — are joined by distinguished international colleagues Saba Pashaee (voice) and Hamid Khansari (oud) to celebrate the exquisite sounds of Persian culture.
These young keepers of ancient traditions lovingly preserve the vocal radif that have been cultivated over centuries, and also remake them in contemporary compositions, offering their personal contributions to an ever-evolving culture. This is an afternoon of laments, lullabies, and hypnotic dance tunes, both classic and new.
This performance is made possible with the support of the Sydney Opera House Trust. Bundanon acknowledges the generosity of the Boyd Music Circle, a dedicated group of supporters increasing opportunities for Australian and international artists to connect with our regional audiences, promoting a vibrant future of chamber music for all.
