Art Forms: Performance, Theatre

Residency Year: 2021

Lives / works: Naarm, Melbourne

Samara Hersch is an artist and director whose practice explores the intersection of contemporary performance and community engagement. She recently completed her Masters at Das Theatre in Amsterdam. Her current research is an exploration into public acts of intimacy through imagining new artistic frames for non-professional performers and audiences to inhabit.

In residence at Bundanon

Hersch will be in residence at Bundanon with Nithya Nagarajan and Wendy Yu working on their project Vishakanyas: Poison Maidens.

Vishakanyas: Poison Maidens is a radical feminist interpretation of the relatively unknown myth, Vishakanyas – The world’s OG femme fatales. Part choreography, part conversation, part confession – this relational work invites a reflection on female agency, desire, sensuality and sexuality for female Bharatanatyam dancers in India and the diaspora.
