Read MoreComic Art Workshop is an organisation dedicated to the professional development of graphic storytellers, with our core activity being a biennial, two-week residency program designed to incubate a new generation of Australian graphic novels. For each, we invite 12 promising graphic storytellers to a remote venue to develop their projects, guided by local comics educators and international guests.
Established to address gaps in support for those working in the emergent field of Australian graphic literature, our program introduces creators to methods of literary workshopping, provides an opportunity to share skills and assists in building community networks.
Since its start in 2015, the Comic Art Workshop has supported 30 comic artists. More than a third have gone on to publish works nationally and internationally, with many works winning awards and being published in multiple languages.
Our time at Bundanon will be centred around a series of formal literary workshops, during which each of our 12 authors will receive two hours of feedback dedicated to their project. These feedback sessions will be attended by all participants, the workshops’ facilitators and two Master Artists – award winning comic creators Lee Lai and Sophie Yanow, who bring with them years of professional experience and knowledge of publishing in Australia and abroad.
Equally important is unstructured time outside of workshops, which will give participants time to skill share, build relationships and follow up on ideas raised in workshops.
