Jessika Spencer

Jessika Spencer

Art Form: Fibre Art & Weaving

Residency Year: 2026

Lives / Works: Melbourne / Naarm

Jessika Spencer is a Wiradjuri woman currently based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country.

Her practice weaves together traditional and contemporary fibre art techniques. Drawn to slow, ancestral processes, her artistic expression is hands on, with weaving, writing, and photography as her primary mediums.

Sustainability, land care, and cultural heritage are at the heart of Jessika’s practice. The materials she uses are biodegradable and respectfully gathered from Country.
Empowerment and self-determination underpins everything she creates. Each work is an act of cultural strength and personal sovereignty.

In Residence at Bundanon

I intend to immerse myself on Country, creating works that reflect this. My art is deeply grounded in culture, which I express through weaving, writing, and photography.
During the residency, I plan to expand my practice into more tactile fibre art forms, including sewing and embroidery, exploring how these mediums can carry activism and storytelling.

This residency will give me the time and space to create freely, prioritising slow making and deep connection to place, allowing new works to emerge in response to Bundanon’s cultural and ecological context.
