APPLY FOR A RESIDENCY - Applications for Bundanon's 2025 Artists in Residence program are now open

Bundanon

2 March 2024 – 16 June 2024

These learning experiences are informed by Tales of Land and Sea, featuring Jumaadi, Sancintya Mohini Simpson, and a collaboration between Arthur Boyd and Indra Deigan.

In this program, learners will experience how art and artists explore identity through shadows, light, storytelling and myths. Each activity is connected to the ideas, themes and material practices of the artists and artworks in the exhibition.

Museum Season Learning Activities:

Spark Ideas (1 hour)

Learners explore and respond to artworks on display in the Art Museum. Consideration is given to the variety of themes including storytelling, identity, and diaspora. Tales of Land & Sea will inform and inspire learners about their own art making in the connected suite of learning experiences.

Sensing Stories (2 hours)

Together we explore the power of mythology, transforming feelings and ideas through abstract artmaking. Respond to a line of text from a range of myths, including those in the exhibition. This text will inspire a large format work on paper using handmade brushes and Bundanon bushfire charcoal inks. This exercise will include repeated gestural motifs reflecting your interpretation of the text, which are then detailed with fine-line patterns.

Expanding Stories (3 hours)

Heroes, villains, mythical creatures and monsters go on quests and adventures in your hand-made artist’s book. Who are the heroes and villains in your book?  How might you feature in it? Could there be more than one point of view? Use gouache and pencil and both sides of the concertina book to communicate the multiple perspectives of your fantastic story.

Revealed Through Shadows (3 hours)

Can we see you or are you hidden? Work with a friend to find dark and light in the natural environment and create shadows using paper cutouts to obscure and hide yourself (or your representative) in a series of black and white photos. Learners must bring their own camera or smart device to use.
