Bundanon

Rochelle Haley Workshop

Starting with wet media, participants will work on the floor laying down gestures that map the reaches of their own body. Haley will discuss the development and theory of her choreographic drawing methods, encouraging participants to pay attention to their own bodies in relation to the surface of the material. They will register their own movements against a set of prompts, staying open to the sensations they experience through this process. The workshop is not focussed on drawing the body in any representational sense.

After one hour, the group will take a break, allowing the wet media to dry. Then they will return and work over the base layer with the dry media.

This workshop can be adapted to suit all levels of movement. Participants should wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothes.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Rochelle Haley

Rochelle Haley’s large-scale installations use the sensory effects of colour to play with our perceptions of surface, composition and pictorial space. Her practice centres on the intersections of dance, drawing and painting.
