Residency Year: 2025

Lives / Works: Bali, Indonesia (Waibung) and Australia (Wardandi Noongar Boodja, South Western Australia, Kinjarling Noongar Minang, Great Southern).

Caris Pepper is an Australian-born abstract expressionist artist and arts therapist whose work explores the intersections of nature, femininity, and healing energy. Raised in the coastal forests of South Western Australia, her practice draws inspiration from the natural world and her connection to the Australian landscape. She works primarily with acrylics, creating vibrant and emotive works that evoke themes of transformation, self-acceptance, and personal empowerment. Her work serves as both a reflection of her spiritual connection to God, the land, and a conduit for healing, allowing viewers to engage with her art on a deeply emotional level.

Caris holds a Master’s degree in Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy and integrates her therapeutic background into her creative process, blending intuitive and mindful techniques. Her art has been exhibited internationally, including her Femessence series, which celebrates feminine empowerment, and her work is represented by galleries in Southeast Asia.

In Residence at Bundanon

During my residency at Bundanon, I will create a series of abstract works inspired by the littoral landscapes, dimensions, and the dynamic interplay of land, water, and sky. Guided by the Shoalhaven region’s liminal spaces, my exploration will delve into themes of transformation, connection to place, and creation, reflecting the fluid rhythms of nature. Immersing myself in the environment through walking, meditation, and sensory experiences, I will allow Bundanon’s tranquillity to nurture a deep spiritual connection, creating space to be both a witness and co-creator. This residency offers a unique opportunity to deepen my bond with place, integrating the landscape’s energy into my practice as an artist and arts therapist, bringing these sacred spaces into light for others to access and collaborate within.
