ARTIST BIOS

Dan Challis

South-coast NSW singer-songwriter Dan Challis melds lyrically-driven acoustic country music, with a story-telling focus. His songs centre on the lived-experience, and befit his troubadour ethos; living out the very life he tells stories about through his music. Dan has captivated audiences both here and in North America, where he spent the last 4 years up until 2020. It was there he penned the songs for his most recent body of work, ‘No Lonely Road’ (2020); his sophomore album. His music has been described as: “rich, authentic acoustic folk… (that) should make you feel something raw and timeless.”  Ear To The Ground Music Blog.

The Fremantle-born singer-songwriter credits his development as an artist and lyricist to influences such as Paul Kelly, Lior and The Waifs; as well American & Canadian folk musicians, born out of the 60s folk music revival; such as James Taylor, Don McLean and Neil Young.  Read more: danchallis.com

Calico

Calico is the project of singer/songwriters Ness Quinn (Hot Spoke, A-Sides Club) and Paul Greene. Their songwriting is as raw and honest as their performances. Together their differences serve to compliment each other’s strengths as performers beautifully. Paul brings his rock n roll and blues background and melds it beautifully with Ness’ delicate heart on her sleeve songwriting. Together they create something magical. They will leave their Melody’s lingering in your mind for days after seeing them.

Together they are currently working on their first E.P set for release 2023. They were recently selected to support Sarah Blasko and have many more exciting performances lined up for the year.

Annaliese Szota

Annaliese Szota perfectly blends her engaging theatricality with a quirky indie-pop style and an endearing brand of storytelling. With comparisons to Regina Spektor, Kate Miller-Heidke and Tori Amos, Annaliese fronts her live music gigs with her piano, vocal loop pedal, flowers and fairy lights. Her latest project ‘Hearthstone’ is an EP funded by a Shoalhaven Arts board grant, and is an anthology of songs reflecting the people and landscapes of the Shoalhaven during the past few years. It debuted at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre in April 2022.
