Today Bundanon announces the full list of artists and researchers who will undertake residencies at Bundanon in 2026.
Bundanon’s world-renowned Artists in Residence program is the largest program of its kind in Australia and spans the organisation’s 30-year history. The program grows year-on-year and is structured through a series of partnerships with leading arts organisations and companies, cultural agencies and benefactors.
Bundanon is committed to fostering an inclusive Artists in Residence program, with a selection process guided by diverse independent peer assessors. At every step of the process, Bundanon ensures that diversity and accessibility are prioritised.
Rachel Kent, CEO said: “Our 2026 Artists in Residence program continues to uphold Bundanon’s core commitment to cultural production across all disciplines, and in all phases of the creative process. As an indication of this commitment, there are no direct costs to artists associated with the program. This important initiative highlights the organisation’s support of the development of new work in Australia, consistent with the National Cultural Policy – Revive that promotes the centrality of the artist.”
Sophie O’Brien, Head of Curatorial & Learning said: “For the 2026 Artists in Residence program Bundanon received a record 504 applications from artists across Australia and from 24 countries. This reflects exceptional growth across all disciplines, including a welcome increase in D/deaf artists selected for residencies for the coming year. We are thrilled to be supporting innovative practice across such diverse communities and disciplines.”
The Artists in Residence program represents all artforms encompassing visual and performing arts, literature, dance, music, environmental and scientific research, as well as a newly established annual ecological residency. The program provides important career opportunities for artists and researchers to develop their work by providing a tranquil, inspiring environment that is devoid of urban distractions, noise and light pollution, to support critical thinking and creative production. The program is hosted in purpose-built studios and rehearsal spaces located at Bundanon’s secluded Homestead site.
Bundanon’s purpose is to celebrate the arts and the Australian landscape through its unique natural and cultural heritage gifted to the nation by Arthur and Yvonne Boyd in 1993. It was the Boyds’ vision to establish and preserve Bundanon as a ‘creative and working art environment’ and since the 1990s the Artists in Residence program has actively supported the generation of new ideas and creative works.
Arthur and Yvonne Boyd’s vision for Bundanon lies at the heart of the Artists in Residence program: to provide a creative space for Australia’s contemporary artists and researchers in a unique and engaging natural environment.
Arthur Boyd described Bundanon as “a place for the community to enjoy the bush and the river, and a place to be used as a forum where those from every facet of the arts and sciences could get together.”
