Art Form: Visual Art

Residency Year: 2026

Lives / Works: Melbourne / Naarm

Ella Dunn is a visual artist born in NSW now working in Melbourne, Naarm

She spent her formative years growing up in the mid-north coast of NSW and is currently based in Melbourne. In 2017 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts.

Dunn’s art practice focuses on figurative, narrative-based works. She uses paint to explore her immediate surroundings and delve into the intimacy of domestic scenes and personal experiences. She investigates connections to place, memory, and relationships, in particular, exploring the relationship between fictional and personal narratives and how they can be skewed or exaggerated.

In Residence at Bundanon

During my residency I will focus on the Shoalhaven River as a site of transformation and change, connecting my personal experience with the natural environment and reflecting on matrescence during this time. I am interested in how bodies of water embody cycles of holding, movement, and renewal, and how these qualities mirror the physical and emotional transformations of matrescence. This engagement will inform a series of drawings and watercolours, developed through a slow, responsive process that reflects the passage of time and the evolving relationship between body, landscape, and site.
