Mari Hirata is a visual artist. Born in Yokohama, Japan, and immigrating to Australia in 1992, her work often draws on aesthetics and sensibilities of traditional Japanese art and design.

Mari Hirata used her time at Bundanon to research and develop a new series of photographic works and wearable art pieces/small sculptures inspired by the local landscape.

Bundanon acknowledges the people of the Dharawal and Dhurga language groups as the traditional owners of the land within our boundaries, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.

In Dharawal the word Bundanon means deep valley.
