London-based pianist and composer Alexander Boyd returns to perform a deeply personal solo concert at Bundanon.
Paying homage to his late father, artist Jamie Boyd, this performance weaves eloquent solos by Bach, Debussy, Schumann, Galuppi, and Rachmaninov to evoke the passions, life, and work of an artist – heard through the hands and heart of his son.
“The Études-Tableaux and the Preludes are very evocative of visual imagery, which is something my father and I had remarked upon in the past. I think both composers preferred the listener to make up their own minds about what that imagery was, indeed Debussy put the titles of his Préludes at the end of the piece, as if to emphasise this point. My father and grandfather had the same feeling about their paintings, hoping the observer would create what they want to see themselves” – Alexander Boyd
“Beautifully controlled, lyrical playing, I was left marveling at his consistently dazzling pianism” – The Australian
