A Ngandah, a warrior, a lawman.
This one-man theatre show by collaborators Jake Māra and Lincoln Smith tells the story of Arawarra.
Long buried in the fine print of colonial history, Arawarra’s story charts first contact and resistance on the South Coast of NSW in the early 1800s.
Performed on Country, by Bangli / the Shoalhaven River and told with courage, humour and humanity, this powerful performance centres itself in truth-telling as it examines the actions of celebrated colonial forefather Alexander Berry.
Jake Māra is a proud Gammea-Dharawal man from the Shoalhaven region of the South-Coast of NSW. He is a respected language custodian, cultural educator, performer and published poet and is passionate about the continuation of his language and culture for future generations.
Lincoln Smith is a creative producer and director living in the Shoalhaven region of South-Coast NSW. He utilises creative and community development skills in his role working for arts/social change company BIG hART.
