“The greatest trio on earth.” – The New York Times
Renowned for their improvisational prowess and hypnotic live performances, The Necks celebrate four decades of their elusive musical alchemy in 2027 with their biggest Australian tour ever.
Since their first show at the Old Darlington School at University of Sydney in April 1987, Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) have captivated audiences around the world with pieces that slowly unravel, shift and metamorphose.
Every piece is composed in real time, and no two shows are ever the same. Don’t miss them at Bundanon this March.
The Necks are one of the great cult bands of Australia. Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums), and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms.
They have packed out venues across the globe, including nearly 60 European tours, collaborated with Brian Eno, Underworld and Swans, and won the 2019 Richard Gill Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music. The 12-date tour from January to March 2027 coincides with the release of their 24th album, Surf.
Featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel in the most mesmerising fashion, frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, The Necks stand up to re-listening time and time again. The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks is unique in the world today.
