Sir Sidney Nolan (1917-1992), a giant in 20th century Australian art, was a prolific artist and the early 1980s was a creatively intense period for him.

Proficient in oils and always on the look out for new means of expression, it was then that he began to experiment using aerosol spray paint, creating layers of colour blended directly on the canvas. During a visit to Bundanon in 1982 Nolan started work on a series of ‘Heads’ in Arthur Boyd’s studio. From the Bundanon Collection, this exhibition highlights a series of spray paint heads and other works produced by Sidney Nolan in the early 1980s while he was staying at Bundanon
