Experience an intimate performance by German vocal ensemble Sjaella, whose stunning a cappella harmonies will transport you to another realm.
The flawless unity and seamless connection of Sjaella make each note, breath, and movement feel as if it comes from a single voice. This is a rare chance to hear these exceptional artists up close, far from their usual performances in grand concert halls.
At Bundanon, Sjaella will perform pieces by Henry Purcell, Clément Janequin, Caroline Shaw, arrangements of Breton, Irish, Latvian, German and Finnish traditional songs, and a work by young Sydney-based composer Alice Chance. As the ensemble describes, “Sjaella is the spirit of the women who come together on stage, carrying with them a child-like awe of the world.”
“Ethereal, sometimes meditative, always touching” – Leipziger Volkszeitung
Bundanon acknowledges the generosity of the Boyd Music Circle, a dedicated group of supporters increasing opportunities for Australian and international artists to connect with our regional audiences, promoting a vibrant future of chamber music for all.
Sjaella
Uniform yet individual, gentle yet robust, precise yet free-flowing – this versality is what Sjaella’s sound is all about. The six singers joined forces many moons ago and continue to discover new ways to diversify their sound, because they are opened to new influences, love musical mixtures and have the courage to challenge barriers.
They are comfortable with their wide-ranging repertoire which comprises various genres. This very diversity coupled with the close relationship the group has with their audience has paved the way, for many years, for Sjaella’s participation in renowned music festival both domestic and overseas and have been awarded at international vocal music competitions.
