DiscoverAPHIDS is an artist-led experimental art organisation led by Lara Thoms and Mish Grigor based in Naarm/Melbourne.
Collaborative, risk-taking and future focused APHIDS makes experimental work across art forms and contexts: in public space, festivals, digital platforms, across visual and performing arts, major institutions and beyond. APHIDS have been presented in every state and territory in Australia and have engaged audiences in libraries and public squares, nursing homes in Finland, community halls in regional towns, drive-ins and festivals across the world.
APHIDS uses a peer-based approach to art-making, knowledge sharing and cross disciplinary exchange from diverse viewpoints.
APHIDS will bring together a bold and eclectic group of artists for a week of deep experimentation, strategy-making, and collaborative play. The residency will serve as a hybrid space—part retreat, part performance lab, part speculative rehearsal for the future.
The participating artists span a range of practices and approaches. APHIDS’ “QUAD” Amrita Hepi (dance, choreography, embodied research), Sammaneh Pourshafighi (socially engaged performance and photography), Julia Croft (experimental theatre and feminist performance), and Nisha Madhan (dramaturgy and curation) join forces with previous Supermassive program participant Emmaline Zanelli (expanded photography and installation). This group residency will be rich in cross-pollination, where no form is fixed and no question is off-limits.
