Art Form: Writing

Residency Year: 2023

Lives / Works: Ngunnawal country, Canberra

C.Z. Tacks is an Australian writer of speculative fiction.

Their work ranges from deeply mediocre to actually pretty good. When they are not writing, Tacks is the head of engagement for Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild, the program lead for Conflux and Natcon 2023, and a general nuisance at the local pub. Their short story Bliss Street won the 2022 Jack Whyte Storyteller’s Award. They enjoy watercolour painting, transformative works, and collecting more stationary than they will ever realistically use.

In Residence at Bundanon

Tacks plans to complete a draft of their current manuscript, a fantasy novel with the working title Red Glass Net. This novel uses the genre to explore stigma, marginalisation, and finding power in unexpected places.
