Lauren McCartney

Art Forms: Performance, Performance Art

Residency Year: 2020

Lives / Works: Wollongong, Australia

Lauren McCartney is a multidisciplinary feminist artist. Her work parodies objectification and conventions of appropriate female behaviour. She creates situations where her body is humorously exaggerated to the degree that she becomes a spectacle and an object of laughter, whilst simultaneously disrupting stereotypes and myths about femininity and misbehaviour.

During her residency, McCartney focused on her performative work, which explores women’s subjective guilt, arising from the stillness of the female body in the domestic realm.
