Loxy & ROMÆO

Loxy & ROMÆO

Art Forms: Music/Sound, Performance

Residency Year: 2026

Lives / Works: Magandjin

Loxy (Lachlan Purcell) and Romaeo (Olivia De Bon Abbott) are sound/music & performance artists based in Melbourne, Naarm

Loxy is a performance artist, producer and director. His practice centres around dance and theatre. It prioritises world-building and expression of the phenomenal experience. His distinct style combines contemporary methodologies with other artistic disciplines such as drag and writing, to produce layered, genre-queer performance.

Artist, producer, mix engineer, and audio engineer, ROMÆO’s music is as diverse and ambitious as her skillset. Like all great art-pop auteurs, ROMÆO links her brand of pop with a larger concept – with every off kilter hook comes a deeper meaning. Together, the pair create works combining their discplines and exploring their joint interest in identity, authenticity and the tech apocalypse.

In Residence at Bundanon

The first realisations of our performance art piece (working title God, Complex.) will be worked on during residence. It will be a culmination of our research conducted the past year assessing the impact of online spaces and big tech business on the arts from the perspective of practitioners and enjoyers. We will experiment with spontaneity, synchronicity and systematic composition – processes which underpin both spirituality and technology. Key questions we will ask are: if improvisation is an act of channeling, what are we connecting to? How are spontaneity, time and place re-presented in the algorithm/online space? What is the role of synchronicity in the highly automated world?
