Paul Grabowsky is beloved of listeners, renowned for his endlessly curious and inventive collaborations, not to mention his virtuosic skills. With her passion for creating deep and reciprocal musical connections between Australia and Asia, trailblazer Mindy Meng Wang is every bit his match.
Their music is poetic, lyrical and a beautiful union of musical traditions. Listening, it’s hard to imagine that these two instruments are so rarely partnered, as the match sounds heaven-sent.
Presenting their new album Between Dreams, this performance will create a soundscape that is meditative and captivating.
Mindy Meng Wang is a Chinese/Australian Composer and world leading contemporary Guzheng Performing Artist. She is a pioneer in bringing the Guzheng (ancient Chinese harp) into many western genres such as experimental, Jazz, western classical, Electronic, pop and improvisation. Mindy’s long-term vision is to creates a strong voice for female composers and artists of Asian heritage, and more importantly, create a deeper and reciprocal musical connection between Australia and Asia.
Paul Grabowsky is a pianist composer, arranger and conductor with a career spanning nearly 50 years. He is considered one of Australia’s most significant musicians. He has recorded over 40 albums and has won 8 ARIA Awards, as well as numerous APRA awards, 2 Helpmann Awards and a Deadly Award. He is the founder of the Australian Art Orchestra which he led for 19 years. He directed the Queensland Music Festival in 2007 and Adelaide Festival of Arts in 2010 &2012. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia. He is currently ED of Monash University Performing Arts Centres.
