Quartet X reimagine chamber music, blurring the lines between classical and pop.

The program moves from Michael Nyman’s The Heart Asks Pleasure First to fresh arrangements of Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande and Toni Watson, alongside new compositions created especially for the ensemble. Expect playful takes on popular songs, beloved modern classics heard anew and plenty of surprises.

Effervescent, vivacious and described by the musicians themselves as their guilty pleasure, Quartet X make for a joyous season opener.

Quartet X is a fearless new ensemble, featuring some of Australia’s most versatile musicians with Courtenay Cleary on violin, Claire Edwardes on percussion, Emily Granger on harp and Karin Schaupp on guitar. Every piece they perform is written or arranged especially for their unusual combination of instruments, stretching and reshaping what a quartet can be.

With a striking and unusual line-up, the quartet blurs the boundaries between classical precision, contemporary innovation, and genre-bending artistry. Their program reimagines beloved 20th century classical masterpieces alongside fresh arrangements of popular songs and new commissions.
