Joanna Nell is a Sydney-based writer, as well as a full-time GP with a special interest in care of the elderly.

Nell’s residency at the Bundanon was courtesy of the Shoalhaven branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers, as part of the prize awarded for Nell’s short story ‘Kicking the Coffin Nails’ in the 2015 literary awards. Nell used the residency to work on a new novel examining society’s attitude towards ageing, through the eyes of two residents in an aged care facility. The novel, ‘The Single Ladies of Jacaranda Retirement Village’ was released in 2018.

Bundanon acknowledges the people of the Dharawal and Dhurga language groups as the traditional owners of the land within our boundaries, and recognises their continuous connection to culture, community and Country.

In Dharawal the word Bundanon means deep valley.
