Dr Katy Abbott is forensically curious about what makes us tick. Her music explores our passions, fear and motivations using contemporary musical flavours in traditional musical settings focusing on human connection. Abbott’s compositions are performed, published and recorded around the world; she has five solo discs of her work on ABC Classics and MOVE records.
Abbott is Senior Lecturer in Composition at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and also The Artists’ Mentor where she supports artists to build careers with joy, impact, meaning and without burnout through her Programs THRIVE and CATAPULT: 6-month Artist Mentoring Virtual Residency Program.
Her recent work includes 2 major works in the Hidden Thoughts series.
Katy will be imagining, planning and sketching the beginnings of a 50-minute concerto for drumkit, crystal singing bowls/narrator and orchestra for legendary drummer David Jones, actor Carmen Warrington and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Text by writer Maureen Johnson. Peace Concerto will be premiered in September 2023.
