Salote Tawale

Art Forms: Performance, Performance Art, Writing

Residency Years: 2016, 2013

Lives / Works: Australia

Salote Tawale explores the identity of the individual in collective systems through self- performance. Her practice deals with issues of race, ethnicity, class and gender, experienced through growing up in suburban Australia. Whether performing herself or collaborating with other people her works are heavily influenced by feminist video artists from the 1970s.

IN RESIDENCE 2016

Whilst in residence in 2016, Tawale undertook a period of research for a new body of work. Salote intended to work in the landscape and initiate a renewed experimental phase in her process.

Tawale was also in residence at Bundanon in 2013.
